We come to your block, look at the slope, take the levels and talk through what you want the wall to do, whether that is a level yard, a driveway cut, a garden terrace or a building pad. We assess the height, the soil, the drainage the site needs and whether the wall will require an engineered design to AS4678 and council or certifier approval. You then get a fixed, itemised quote for the scope we agree, and where engineering or a certifier is needed we can arrange or advise on that.

Excavate, build and drain

Once you are happy with the quote, we set out the wall, excavate the cut and install the footings and posts to the design. Then we build the wall itself in your chosen material, and just as importantly we install the drainage behind it: an agi drain along the base, free-draining aggregate backfill, geofabric to stop soil fines clogging the drain, and weep holes where appropriate. This hidden drainage is the part that keeps water pressure from building behind the wall, so we never skip it.

Backfill, compact and finish

With the wall and drainage in place, we backfill in layers and compact as we go so the ground behind the wall is stable and will not slump. We finish the levels to suit your yard, driveway or garden, clean up the site and leave you with usable, level ground where a slope used to be. There is no single best material, only the right match for your height, load, soil and budget, and we will give you the honest trade-offs. Concrete sleeper walls on galvanised steel H-posts are the most common, cost-effective and durable system and suit most jobs. Treated timber sleeper is cheaper and looks natural but has a shorter service life and is not permanent, so it will eventually need replacing. Besser and core-filled block is strong but needs a footing and steel, interlocking segmental block suits taller tiered walls with soil reinforcement, and sandstone or gabion give you a premium, characterful and free-draining natural look.
